Curriculum
In keeping with the Rosarian Academy Mission Statement we offer a shared, solid, sequenced and specific curriculum dedicated to developing exemplary young citizens with superior academic preparation. Our Core Knowledge curriculum has a proven track record since implementation in 2000, as measured both by standardized tests and by the students’ enjoyment of learning.
This consensus-based model of specific content guidelines as developed by the Core Knowledge Foundation serves as the basis of our school’s curriculum. In language arts, mathematics, history and geography, and science a systematic sequence of grade specific content is taught consistently year after year. The core content in each subject area is organized to spiral through the grade levels, becoming more sophisticated and detailed in each successive grade.
Students are exposed to a broad range of historical, scientific, and cultural topics that will build on one another to prepare them for later educational success. This wide array of subject matter not only develops cultural literacy but also builds the strong vocabulary necessary for true reading comprehension. Our Core Knowledge curriculum provides a guide to coherent content and skill development from grade to grade, designed to ensure steady academic articulation as students build their knowledge and skills from one year to the next. Our faculty’s commitment to teaching all topics in the Core Knowledge Sequence at their assigned grade level leaves room for teacher and student creativity while eliminating the gaps and repetition that characterize a curriculum in which textbooks and programs are selected more or less at random.
