Budding poets make museum debut

Sun-Sentinel: July 6, 2016

While legendary names such as Poe, Yeats and Whitman typically come to mind when thinking of great poetry, budding poets and illustrators are making their debut at the “Pupils, Poetry and Pictures” exhibit on display at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in downtown Lake Worth.

The exhibit features the original poetry and illustrations created by 13 area middle school students under the mentorship of renowned children’s book author Robert Forbes and Center for Creative Education teaching artist Craig McInnis.

The idea to collaborate with the CCE was an easy one for Forbes who is an advocate of the program that helps children fall in love with learning through the arts.

“The CCE in the Northwood area of Palm Beach County is where they do after-school programs, training and a lot of group activities,” he said. “They get the kids involved in something that is beyond what they are going to get in the neighborhood or at home.”
